Welcome! I’m Eira Edwards, the creator behind Beyond the Chapter. If you’ve reached this corner of the web, chances are you’re a writer. If you’re new to the craft, why not jump to the Blog. It’s filled with tips to help you overcome writer’s block, kick-start your novel and many more topics.

Seeking a trustworthy editor? Look no further! Whether you’ve completed your novel and require proofreading or need help with manuscript evaluation, you’re in the right place. To learn more about my services, check out the Writing Hub.

My credentials

I’m a writer and an editor with a BA degree in English Literature & Language from the University of Brighton. I’ve been working as a Content Manager for over six years, helping my clients perfect their copy.

In my personal time, I’m a fantasy writer, and I’m passionate about supporting and motivating others in the writing community. Whether that’s through proofreading, copy-editing or a manuscript assessment, let’s get your novel ready to share with the world.

My bookish background

I took a two-year creative writing course with New Writing South in 2016. It’s where I met my writing group, and we’ve been meeting regularly and critiquing each other’s work ever since.

I understand not everyone has the opportunity to join a writing group, or may not want to. That’s where this blog comes in! I find so much joy in helping other authors, with how-to guides and inspiration as well as working with them directly to help their manuscript shine. I truly believe in collaboration, and the need for both proofreaders and editors to elevate your writing. Not convinced? Take a look at your favourite author’s acknowledgement sections. They’ll likely say thanks to their editorial team, including their beta readers and/or editors. You might also see a proofreader credited too. This is particularly true in indie authors’ books. Every novel is a collaboration, because most (if not all) writers need a second pair of eyes to help tidy their prose and polish the plot.

Some of my favourite books

  • Uprooted by Naomi Novik
  • Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
  • Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
  • The Binding by Bridget Collins
  • Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
  • Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
  • The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Bookshops to visit

If you find yourself in the south of England (specifically Alfriston), I had the pleasure of discovering an amazing gem of a bookstore: Much Ado Books. For people near Brighton, there are several bookshops to visit, including Raining Books and Goldsboro.

Thanks for stopping by Beyond the Chapter!
